Today I would like to present you my first guest post who is from Romania. I am so excited!!! Despite the fact I have visited Romania and I really loved it, I never had the chance to visit the country as a Vegetarian / Vegan – it happens that only the last year I am on this transition.

My guest post is by Cris & Alex from https://looknwalk.info where they shared with us, their favourite Vegetarian / Vegan restaurant Samsara in Cluj Napoca – Romania.

Saṃsāra is a Sanskrit word that means “wandering” or “world”, with the connotation of cyclic, circuitous change. It also refers to the theory of rebirth and “cyclicality of all life, matter, existence”, a fundamental assumption of all Indian religions. Source “Wikipedia”

For the past year or so, they have started looking for vegan / vegetarian restaurants to check out in their home tome and where they travel. Been to both – that they know of – in Arad , but haven’t tried more than one dish so that they could form an honest opinion. But, they have both been to Samsara in Cluj Napoca so they have two opinions to go with.

When they firstly start planning their Valentine’s trip to Cluj Napoca, their friends suggested to go to a restaurant as well. They were all for it, but only if they went to a vegan / vegetarian place and that’s how Samsara was chosen and reservations made. Yup, you should make reservations especially on busy days.

They loved the place the second they stepped in. It is tiny, yes, and although it was packed (their table was the only one empty), it didn’t feel stuffy. Plus, it’s a non-smoking area! (which is great because the law only kicks in on Mar 17 in Romania). Then came the menu and they didn’t know what to choose. That’s because they liked everything – ok, except the rice-based dishes which they are not a major fan of it. Having the calories clearly written under each dish made their life easier to choose the main course and dessert.

Cris went for an avocado, tomato and mango salad, ginger beer (house-made) and a raw cake with figs and sour cherries (See below). Alex went for a sweet potatoes and quinoa salad, ginger beer and coconut and ginger “candy”. They both got raw bread made from buckwheat and cumin to go with their salads.

Both salads looked amazing and  as a result, they only have had only the above photo. That’s how fast they wanted to dig into them. They loved that the olive oil and vinegar came on the side so they could add exactly how much they wanted to.

The dessert was nice as well and they liked that neither was too sweet. While they used to make a lot of salads at home, they have yet to attempt to make any raw cake.

Conclusion:

While Cris has been toying with raw vegan / vegetarian salads for years, Alex is still in the try-anything-once stage and luckily he loves some of the staples on the menu. He debated getting the guacamole but then went for the salad. There were a lot of options they wanted.

The restaurant they payed a visit was http://samsara.ro/en/, Cris’s order was 57 lei / 14 USD and Alex’s 55 lei / 13.50 USD (not including the 10% tips they left).

If you want to know more about this beautiful city check it here Cluj-napoca. Definitely I will put it on my bucket list! 🙂
