This Thai Marinated Tofu is marinated in a delicious, rich tamari sauce. In this Vegan Tofu recipe, I use firm tofu and make a simple and super quick sauce that you’re sure to love. Served with a green salad. You will LOVE it!
First used in China around 200 BC, tofu is a staple of many Asian diets. Today it is part of mainstream plant-based cuisine. Tofu is made by curdling hot soy milk with a coagulant (commonly calcium sulfate), which creates curds with a soft, fresh, cheese-like texture.
The two most commonly used types of tofu are extra-firm and silken.
Extra-firm tofu is appropriate for grilling and pan-frying applications. In addition to tofu, there are a number of other soy products that are used in the plant-based kitchen, such as yuba (tofu skin), okara (soy pulp), dehydrated tofu, and fermented smelly tofu.

- Bake red and green peppers. Use wooden skewers and place alternate red pepper - tofu - green pepper - red pepper - tofu - green pepper.
Equipment
- Baked pan

Storage
You can let the tofu cool down completely and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Top Tips for marinated baked tofu
- Prior to using tofu, it is important to press out as much liquid as possible. This allows the tofu to better absorb other flavors from marinades or sauces.
- To do this, wrap the tofu in a towel and place it in a colander. Lay something somewhat heavy, such as a plate, on top and leave it for 20 minutes to remove any excess water.
- Another way to remove excess water is to freeze and defrost it. Note that this method of freezing results in a more porous, “meatier” texture that is good if you want to use tofu as cutlets or when you want a chewy texture.
- To make the perfect Baked Tofu, you have to make sure that you season it very well. Leave it to rest for at least 1 hour.
- Instead of Tamari, you can use Soya sauce.
FAQ
How long should I marinate tofu?
Tofu can be marinated for as little as 30 minutes, but for best results, marinate it for at least 2-4 hours, or even overnight. The longer it marinates, the more flavor it will absorb.
Can I freeze marinated tofu before baking
Yes, you can freeze marinated tofu before baking. Simply place the tofu and marinade in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the refrigerator before baking.
