I want to be Vegan in Chile. I look forward to being able to travel again without fear. Not to feel the slightest hesitation at the thought of associating with other people on planes and ships. I look forward to becoming social beings again.
I dream of visiting Chile and taste all the Vegan has to offer. Until then I collaborated with a few restaurants and research to present you with the best Vegan food in Chile.
As far as I am aware 10 years ago Veganism did not exist in Chile. Nowadays you can find a few shops and restaurants where you can enjoy Vegan goodies.
Let’s start!
Supermarkets / Shops
Jumbo: In this supermarket, you will find organic fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds, vegan milk, and a small variety of vegan products.
Lider: Here you can find Vegan Cheese, Milk Vegan coffee, Bread, Legumes, Fruits, and Vegetables.
Arte Vegetal: It is a place where you find a good variety of vegan products. Cakes, sandwiches, salads, noodles. It’s not a restaurant, it’s more a shop where you can find other vegan products as well.
Planta Maestra: It’s a great shop with lots of vegan products. Teas, rice, coco flakes, nuts, chocolates, butter, and much more.
Traditional Bread
The traditional bread of Chile is Marraqueta. It’s soft, fluffy, and goes great with butter. Available in Bakeries in Chile and in Supermarkets. You can also find it with the name Pan Batido or Pan Francés depending on the region.
Hallulla: Another delicious type of bread where you can find in Chile. It is a flat round baked bread. Its taste is similar to a scone.
Meat Free Products
Pastas Mister Veggie. Although the PF company is known for its entire line of meat and animal exploitation, it is also now known for being one of the first companies in this field to also launch a line of products for vegetarians called Mister Veggie.
Although it is not yet perfect since most of their products contain derivatives of milk (that’s why they are for vegetarians), I highlight the pastas that are totally suitable for vegans.
Soya “Hamburger, this a delicious soya burger where you can use in lots of recipes.
Vegetalex, 100% vegetable ingredients. Nutritionally healthier because they do not contain cholesterol or saturated fat and have lower calorie content than a meat burger. You can find them in Lider supermarket.
Sauces
Chileans love their sauces! Not Mayo by Not Company is a vegan mayonnaise made of Canola oil, water, chickpea, mustard seeds, grape vinegar, lemon juice, salt, brown sugar, garlic powder, cumin, and white pepper. They have the classic, garlic and spicy version.
Also, the classic ketchup is a vegan option.

Zen Zero, a Chilean brand also sells Vegan ice creams in various flavors. You can find them in the Jumbo supermarket. Quite expensive though.
Not Company has around 10 flavors of Vegan ice creams. They are also gluten-free!
Fruits and Veggies
At the local market called feria, you can find a big variety of fruits and veggies. They are much cheaper than supermarkets. Its existence dates are from colonial times. Here except for fruits and veggies, you find beauty and kitchen appliances as well. Ask local people when they are usually open. Normally during early morning hours up to early afternoon.
Vegan Traditional Chilean Food
Pebre is a Chilean salsa made of coriander, onions, olive oil, garlic, and ground or pureed spicy aji peppers. Sometimes chopped tomatoes are added as well. Chileans normally put it on the bread.
A nice recipe you can try is the recete de pebre chileno.
Mote con huessilo, is a traditional summer drink made with nectar liquid, peaches with sugar and cinnamon, and mixed with cooked husked wheat. Try this recipe if you wanna make it yourself.
Humita, is made of fresh choclo (Peruvian corn), wrapped in a fresh corn husk. Then it is slowly steamed or boiled in a pot of water.
Porotos granados, is a stew that is made with beans, corn, and squash. A few times they use cumin, basil, and oregano.
